Silver Accreditation Quality Club's SLSNSW

Letter from the President of SLS Australia

Dear President,

On behalf of the Surf Life Saving NSW Board of Directors, I would like to congratulate you and your club on achieving Silver Level status in the Quality Clubs Program.  Achieving this level showcases a great deal of dedication to the way in which you undertake club operations and support your members within the movement.

Surf Life Saving NSW is proud to have clubs dedicated to continual improvement, and the work that you have undertaken in retention and attraction of members, increase in Surf Sports participation and the administration and management of Cudgen Headlands SLSC certainly demonstrates this focus. I am sure that Cudgen Headlands SLSC will reap future benefits from participating in this program.

I would again like to congratulate you on achieving Silver Level status, and look forward to your club progressing to Gold Level in the coming seasons.

Kind Regards,

David Murray

Congratulations Nadi Canning - Clean Sweep SLSNSW Championships

Cudgen Headland SLSC is proud to share the news that our very much loved and respected member Nadi Canning (Kingscliff's local GP as well) has absolutely annihilated her competition in the Masters group winning GOLD in all her events at the SLSNSW State Championships at Blacksmiths Beach on Wednesday and Thursday. We congratulate her on an awesome effort  - NSW Champion 30-34 age group for the Ironperson, Surf Race, Individual Ski and Board race. Nadi is a true champion and wonderful role model for our club and we wish her all the best over the weekend as she competes in the open events.

Cudgen Headland Whitewash at Country Champs

The Far North Coast juggernaut from Cudgen Headland SLSC has obliterated the competition at the 2017 Stramit NSW Country Surf Life Saving Championships at South West Rocks this weekend.
After losing to Byron Bay SLSC last year by just seven points, Cudgen competitors have had the title in their sights for the last 12 months and ended up with more than double the points of nearest rival Sawtell SLSC.
In taking the Champions Shield, Cudgen has also ended the six–year winning streak of the fiercely competitive Byron Bay club, which ended up in third place overall.
While sheer numbers helped the Cudgen crew to victory, some outstanding performances from key competitors saw the Cudgen stakes rise rapidly over the weekend.
But it was in the teams events where the club demonstrated almost total domination over its rivals.
Cudgen secured a trifecta in the beach relays winning the Under 17, Under 19 and Open event in both male and female divisions. Wins in the premier team event, the Taplin Relay were also recorded in Open Male and Female, and U17 and U19 Male. The U15 Male and Female Cameron Relays also fell to Cudgen.
Stella performances were seen by Anthea Warne who won the U17 Board, Surf and Ironwoman, then backed-up to win the Open Surf Race as well. Luke Chaffer claimed the U19 Board, Ski and Ironman along with the Open Ski and Ironman. And it was a Cudgen-only presentation for the Open Board Race with Scott McCartney, Rory Matthews and Luke Chaffer all on the podium.
In her first year of racing in the opens, Hayley Smith dominated in the U15s winning Beach Flags, Board, Ironwoman and Rescue Tube Races.
Cudgen Headland’s Director of Surf Sports Matthew Bell says the club has been right behind the team in preparing for this event.
“The whole club has put in a lot of work since the last Championships and have been determined to get the victory and to do it so convincingly this time round, it’s a credit to the team and the rest of the club.
“We had around 70 nippers here this weekend and our more experienced athletes like Scott McCartney and Nadi Canning are big mentors for the kids and push the whole team to give their best,” said Matt Bell.

Winner John Rankin with Club President Adam Mills

Sincere thanks to our Car Competition organiser Sandra Palmer for her huge effort over the past few months to ensure that the tickets were distributed and then of course collected (the hard part).  For the 3rd year running we "sold out"!  Big congratulations on a job well done from all of us at Cudgen!

To the ticket sellers, all our helpers and our club staff who on the day worked hard to make our annual car competition fundraiser another huge success a very big thank you to you all.

It was great to have the winner John Rankin at the club for the draw, so excited and happy to have his lucky ticket #454 drawn out of the historic ball roller. 2nd prize went to ticket #434 Steve Kay and Jim Jenkins with ticket #506 third prize were our other lucky winners on what was a sun shiny afternoon at the Surfy, where the ticket holders were treated to a few cool refreshments and a traditional clubby barbecue and then danced the afternoon away with great music by Eureka Funk.

Thank you also to our scrutineers Summerland's representatives on the day, Liz & Christine who oversaw the draw.  The ongoing support of our club by our local credit union is very much appreciated.

Lastly, to all those who bought tickets this year - thank you so much - we really appreciate your support - better luck next year!

2015 NSW Club of The Year!

2015 NSW Club of The Year!

t‘s official – our own Cudgen Headland Surf Life Saving Club was announced on Saturday night, as the “2015 New South Wales – Surf Life Saving Club of the year”.

The 2015 state-wide Awards of Excellence were held in front of a dining audience of 1200+ and live-streamed to media audiences across the nation from the Four Seasons Hotel Convention Centre in Sydney. President Adam Mills accepted the prestigious award on behalf of the Cudgen Headland Club and its members, and despite fierce competition from the larger metropolitan clubs, Cudgen was crowned the winner as a reward for the clubs hard work over the last 3 years to strengthen all sections of the club and not just focus on one particular area to maintain a well-balanced organisation.
